More than 1,400 flights to the US were canceled on Friday

According to FlightAware’s flight tracking website, more than 1,400 flights scheduled for Friday in the country, arriving or departing from the United States, have been canceled as airlines continue to struggle with timely departures this summer.

In addition to 1,482 cancellations, the airlines had more than 7,000 delays within, to or from the United States on Friday

Among US airlines, American Airlines had the most cancellations (263 cancellations), while Southwest was second with 193 cancellations.

The airlines faced persistent cancellations and delays this summer that frustrated customers and lawmakers.

Earlier this week, Democrats passed a cashback law for canceled flights due to flight disruptions.

The measure would require airlines to refund their customers if their flights were canceled within 48 hours before the scheduled departure time.

“Enough: travelers are tired of wasting precious time fighting airlines to get their legally required cashback,” Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass.) Said in a statement. “And they are tired of booking flights months in advance, only to face health concerns that force them to choose between canceling a non-refundable flight or traveling and risking the health of their fellow passengers.”

Flight cancellations and delays come as the airline industry has seen a rebound from an earlier pandemic, and people are again traveling in more numbers as pandemic restrictions and concerns are subsiding in the US
